HIGH-RESOLUTION X-RAY AND UV SPECTROSCOPY OF THE SEYFERT 1 GALAXY NGC7469

We propose a long (150 ks) XMMNewton observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxyNGC7469, to be carried out simultaneously with FUSE UV spectroscopy. We willinvestigate the connection between the Xray and UV warm absorber/emitters inthis object. A short XMMNewton observation showed that at least one of themultiple phases of the Xray warm absorber can be identified with a UV absorberphase. A fuller understanding of this system can only be achieved with a bettersignaltonoise RGS spectrum. By understanding the ionisation and velocitystructure of the outflow, we can determine its mass and kinetic luminosity,which are necessary for understanding the influence of outflows on the evolutionof AGN, their host galaxies, and the surrounding intergalactic medium. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
