Loneliness in the Context of Long-Term Care: The Role of Social Participation and Social Relationships

This project investigates the relationship between social isolation and loneliness among older adults living in long-term care (LTC) facilities. Drawing on a cross-sectional design, it explores how different aspects of social isolation, namely social networks, social support, and social engagement are associated with loneliness, and whether these relationships are moderated by aging attitudes. Data will be collected via structured interviews and institutional records from two LTC sites in Vienna. The findings aim to enhance our understanding of the social and psychological factors contributing to loneliness in LTC and to inform future research and interventions in this context.
