Oral Microbiota, a Potential Determinant for the Treatment Efficacy of Gastric Helicobacter Pylori Eradication in Humans

Antibiotic therapy is known to be the standard treatment for gastric Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. However, its therapeutic efficacy is not consistent in the clinic. The oral cavity serves as another reservoir for HP, and may contribute to the failure of gastric HP eradication therapy. However, changes to the oral microbial abundance and composition after gastric HP eradication therapy has not yet been identified. Thus, we analyzed the oral microbial components from patients who had received the gastric HP eradication treatment by using a high-throughput 16S rDNA deep sequencing.
