Investment by companies in industry; expectations and motives

This table contains data on the investment expectations and motives of companies in the industry. The data is the result of a sample survey conducted by CBS twice a year among companies in the industry. The spring measurement will be carried out in February, the autumn measurement in September. CBS asks companies in this sector about their investment expectations for the current and/or the following calendar year. The statistics ‘Investments; expectations and motives’ are produced with co-financing by the European Commission. The investment motives for the current calendar year and the following calendar year are only measured in the autumn measurement. The level of investment fluctuates sharply over time. Investment expectations can also be subject to fluctuations. For example, companies can adjust their expectations over the course of the year because they decide to cancel, postpone or accelerate investment projects. In addition, the date of delivery of the tangible fixed assets may shift. The data are available by industry sector. Data available from: 2010 The data collected for the publication in May 2020 are partially (around three quarters) from before 12 March. 12 March is the turning point for the COVID-19 pandemic measures. In view of the impact, based on additional questions and the response after 12 March, the dates before 12 March have been corrected. Status of the figures: all figures are final. Amendments as of 11 May 2021: The results of the 2021 spring survey have been added in this table. When will there be new figures? The results of the spring measurement of year T will be published at the end of April of year T. The results of the autumn measurement of year T will be published at the end of November of year T.
