资源简介:
The building currently housing Restaurant E18hteen at 18 York Street in the Byward Market was constructed in 1876 by James R. Bowes. Its architectural significance pertains to its ornate detail, such as the cornice, quoins, and drip moulds, as well as the dormers on the mansard style roof. A very detailed cut stone façade shows the craftsmanship related to the Second Empire style. Originally built as a three-storey theatre with a 700 person capacity, it is now home to two restaurants and office space above. 18 York Street has maintained its architectural, contextual, and historical value by the thoughtful restoration of ornate details of the Second Empire Style. Although the physical floor plan of the building has changed, it has conserved its original materials and decorative elements. This is the Integrated Project Dossier compiled by a group of undergraduate students of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Program (Engineers and architects) at Carleton University for the CIVE3207 (ARCN4100) Historic Site Recording and Assessment course in 2017.
