Observation Dataset of Small Cloud Particle Phases in Stratiform Cloud Systems under Spring Northeast Cold Vortex Conditions

Based on aircraft icing airborne observation data from four sorties collected during spring Northeast Cold Vortex weather, especially the small cloud particle (<50 μm) information measured by the Cloud and Aerosol Spectrometer with Depolarization (CAS-DPOL), combined with the self-developed quality control and inversion methods for CAS-DPOL data as well as the dedicated data processing software compiled based on these methods, we processed the CAS-DPOL airborne observation data from the four sorties under spring Northeast Cold Vortex weather conditions. The derived data include each particle’s arrival time, particle size, corresponding particle size bin, phase state, and identification of whether it is a spurious particle. These data are stored in Excel spreadsheets, with one spreadsheet allocated to each sortie. The first column of each spreadsheet represents the particle arrival time, the second column the particle size, the third column the bin number of the particle size to which the particle belongs, the fourth column the particle phase state, and the fifth column the judgment result of whether the particle is a natural cloud particle. Given that all the aircraft icing airborne observation data from the four sorties were acquired within stratiform cloud systems under spring Northeast Cold Vortex weather, this dataset can reflect the distribution characteristics of cloud particles with different phase states in stratiform cloud systems during spring Northeast Cold Vortex weather in Northeast China.
