Determination of bathing index and quality of beaches of the west zone of Rio de Janeiro/RJ

Water quality dataset collected on 26 May 2023 from 19 sampling points along the coastline of the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, spanning five beaches: Praia dos Amores/Quebra-Mar da Barra, Barra da Tijuca, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Macumba, and Prainha/Grumari. Parameters include Escherichia coli (MPN/100 mL), chlorophyll a (µg/L), total organic carbon (mg/L), total nitrogen (mg/L), total phosphorus (mg/L), turbidity (NTU), field temperature (°C), pH, and electrical conductivity (µS/cm). Analyses were performed by Centro de Biologia Experimental Oceanus LTDA (INMETRO CRL 0306, ISO/IEC 17025) following SMWW (24th ed.), ASTM D5176-08, and EPA methods. Bathing suitability was assessed against CONAMA Resolution 274/2000.
