Sheep breeds of the Uplands of Wales (e.g. South Wales Welsh Mountain) are renowned for their hardiness, but suffer a trade-off with poor productive capabilities. This study is to identify signatures of selection in the genomes of Welsh sheep breeds in relation to their adaptations to their local environments. This is to understand how these breeds thrive so well on these pastures that the lowland, more productive breeds cannot.
