In recent years, an increasing number of scholars have explored the relationship between microglia and epilepsy, discovering that neuroinflammation mediated by microglia through polarization and phagocytosis, oxidative stress, destruction of the blood-brain barrier, neurogenesis, etc. are closely related to the onset of epilepsy. Numerous studies have found that microglia play a bidirectional regulatory role in the occurrence of epilepsy, which is mainly related to their phenotypes and polarization. Taking microglia and the onset of epilepsy as the starting point, this paper reviews the role of microglia polarization and phagocytosis-mediated neuroinflammation in epileptic seizures in recent years, aiming to provide new ideas and targets for the clinical prevention and treatment of epilepsy.
