Holiday Survey, 1978

In 1968, 1970 and 1974 Statistics Norway carried out holiday and outdoor surveys on behalf of the Ministry of Climate and Environment. The surveys were carried out again in 1978/-79, 1982 and 1986, but without the part regarding the outdoors. The purpose of the surveys was to map the holiday habits of the population as well as their holiday behaviour. The surveys registered the number of vacation trips for each season, destination, means of transportation, accommodation types, duration of the trip, distance, nature, activites etc. The number of days off, vacation schemes and the main vacation's duration for people with work were also registered, as well as types of vacations and the background and reason for these. Data on problems regarding the outdoors exist in SSBs omnibus surveys from November/December 1993 and September 1996. Statistics Norway also carried out a holiday survey in 1999, where parts of the sample had participated in the survey of 1986.

This file contains the data material of the Holiday Survey of 1978. In addition to having mapped Norwegians' vacation habits and vacation behaviour in general, circumstances regarding second homes were in particular focus.
