We sequenced the whole genomes of three to five individuals from each of the 11 previously recognized lineages of kiwi. Sequences were used to characterize phylogenetic relationships and genetic structure of these lineages, to infer past demography and test for genetic health concerns associated with population bottlenecks, and to test for signatures of adaptation.
