Intended Purpose: A dataset of the Statutory acknowledgements was created for the Wellington City Council Proposed District Plan as part of the District Plan Review Process. This layer is part of the Wellington City Proposed District Plan. Statutory acknowledgements are statements of cultural, spiritual, historic, and traditional associations of Mana Whenua with a site or an area acknowledged by the Crown in Treaty of Waitangi settlement processes. They have legal weight from inclusion in Treaty claims settlement acts. The areas include land, geographical features, lakes, wetlands and coastal marine environments that iwi is associated with, as identified in their Deeds of Settlement with the Crown. These are areas or sites that Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi claimant groups have a special relationship with and that are recognised in any proceedings under the Resource Management Act.
