Sargassum Biomass and Hyperspectral Reflectance Dataset from Mesocosm and In Situ Observations

This dataset contains Sargassum biomass measurements (g) and associated hyperspectral reflectance data collected through controlled mesocosm experiments and in situ field observations in La Parguera, Puerto Rico.Two datasets are included:(1) Mesocosm_Biomass.csv – Controlled experimental measurements of Sargassum biomass collected under mesocosm conditions. Columns include wavelength (nm), average reflectance, and associated biomass (g).(2) Organized_SargassumBiomass_Insitu_Data.csv – Field-based measurements collected from drifting Sargassum mats in coastal zones. Columns include sample ID, date, patch number, quadrant number, wavelength (nm), average reflectance, biomass (g), patch depth (m), and estimated volume (m³).These data were used to evaluate relationships between spectral reflectance and biomass across controlled and natural conditions, supporting the development of scalable remote sensing algorithms for Sargassum biomass estimation in coastal zones.Study area: La Parguera Natural Reserve, southwestern Puerto Rico.
