Adaptation of E. coli to low, discontinuous rifampicin treatment

Antibiotic resistance evolves through mutations. However these mutations can often be costly and hence at very low drug exposures, such as those found in the environment or occasionally in patient tissues, these mutations may be prohibited. This study aims at understanding adaptations to low antibiotic levels without the acquisition of bona fide resistance.
