Response of small eukaryotes (0.2-20 um) to inorganic and organic nutrient additions

The loading of nutrient to coastal waters was growing due to anthropogenic activities. Furthermore, the nutrient inputs were changing quantitative and qualitative, increasing the proportion of nitrogen relative to phosphorous and the dissolved organic nitrogen forms relative to inorganic forms. Consequently, the phytoplankton community structure and function could change. On the coastal area off the Ría de Vigo, we made a three microcosm nutrient addition experiments in order to evaluate the short-term response of the small eukaryote community using Illumina. We used surface water and inorganic, organic and mixed (inorganic and organic) nutrient additions in spring, summer and autumn.
