Airbreathing catfishes, particularly those in the family Clariidae, are crucial to aquaculture in Asia and Africa. However, there has been a significant lack of genomic resources for these species until now. This study presents the first high-quality, chromosome-level male reference genome for the Broadhead catfish (Clarias macrocephalus, fClaMac1), also known as the Bighead catfish (Clarias macrocephalus, fClaMac1). The diploid genome of fClaMac1 consists of 27 chromosomes per haplotype and was estimated using K-mer analysis to be approximately 821,673,140 base pairs. Nanopore sequencing from Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) achieved an estimated genome coverage of ~36X. The HiFi PacBio library provided ~12.9X genome coverage, and the Hi-C in situ Illumina library reached ~39.77X genome coverage.
