We recently described a variant of HSV-2 (HSV-2v) characterized by very divergent UL 30 gene sequences. This study aims at providing an overview of the genomic diversity of strains selected on the basis of very divergent UL30 gene sequences. Note that in most cases, patients reported being citizens of African countries.
