The project is aimed at identifying many heptapeptide amino acid sequences within the adeno-associated virus (AAV) serotype 2 assembly activating protein (AAP) (i.e., AAP amino acid positions from 144 to 150) that are viable for virion formation. Such viable heptapeptides are selected from a pool of random nucleotides coding random heptapeptides by means of directed evolution.
