NEON Biorepository Fish Collection (Vouchers)

Fish vouchers collected from wadeable streams and lakes at NEON sites. Sampling Twice per year (spring and fall) Sites divided into 10 reaches/segments Three fixed and three annually rotating reaches/segments sampled per bout (six total) Methods Electrofishing, gill nets, mini-fyke nets Identified to lowest practical taxonomic level; subset measured and weighed Only mortalities or individuals euthanized due to injury are vouchered Fin clips collected from 5-10 individuals of a target species for DNA barcoding Preservation Good condition: fixed in 10% buffered formalin, then transferred to 70% ethanol or isopropanol Poor condition: preserved in 95% ethanol Archived in temperature- and humidity-controlled storage
