ClC-c regulates intestinal stem cell proliferation via EGFR signaling pathway in Drosophila

In this study, it was found that in the midgut of adult Drosophila, the chloride channel ClC-c ClC-c was only expressed in stem /progenitor cells, and inhibition of ClC-c in Drosophila midgut ISCs leads to stem cell loss and inhibitions of stem cell proliferation. To investigate the mechanism with which ClC-c regulates the proliferation of ISCs in Drosophila melanogaster, RNA-seq was performed on dissected midguts with ClC-c depleted in esg+ cells (esgts> ClC-c RNAi) and control (esgts> WT) midguts carrying just esgts-Gal4. A number of genes that have been reported to regulate intestinal stem or progenitor cell proliferation in Drosophila were significantly down-regulated in midguts with ClC-c depleted in esg+ cells.
