National and District Level Party Systems Datasets

Each observation in the National Level Party Systems dataset (NLPS) and the District Level Party Systems dataset (DPLS) is the party system at the national or district level, respectively, in a given election. Users can use the datasets separately or merge them to carry out cross-level analysis. More than fifty elections in the two datasets are overlapping for this purpose. In addition to conventional measures like the effective number of parties are variables such as the size of the largest party, list type, and the vote shares for presidential candidates. File formats include DTA and CSV. Users should review the corresponding publication and codebook for further information.
