NRS-10625 | Card indexes to correspondence

This series consists of index cards to correspondence received by the Ministry of Transport between 1927 and 1975. The cards index correspondence received from government departments, private companies and members of the public regarding the activities carried out by the Ministry such as road building and maintenance, the provision and construction of public transport and transport related incidents and accidents.Each entry on the cards records the registration number given to each piece of correspondence, the date and from whom the correspondence was received and provides a brief precis of the correspondence to which it relates.The cards have been arranged by year. Within each year the cards are organised into a number of categories such as name, place and subject. The cards within each of these categories are then arranged in alphabetical order. The size and format of the index cards changed over time. The earliest cards in the series, those from 1927-1960 are large format cards, while those from 1961-1971 are medium format cards and those from 1972-1975 are small format cards.
