Here we describe the effects of elevated nitrogen deposition and rising temperatures on fungal decomposition of oceanic alpine mats (Racomitrium lanuginosum). Using ITSII sequencing, we examined associated fungal communities at 15 sites along an N deposition gradient in the UK. Both N deposition and temperature strongly influenced the structure and composition of fungal communities, with species richness positively related to moss tissue N contents and temperature.
