资源简介:
In 1870 Ste. Madeleine was taken over by the Colonial Company, a British Conglomerate, that built the first modern factory there during the process of "Centralisation" which reduced the number of smaller and less efficient works in favour of a larger, modern and more efficient factory.Ste. Madeleine was surrounded by several estates. There was Belle Vue to the north, Cedar Hill to the east, St Charles to the south and Petite Morne to the west. As time went on, many of these estates were taken over by the Colonial Company and then the New Colonial company, that came later (in 1895). Prior to nationalisation, New Colonial Co Ltd in 1913 became the Sainte Madeleine Sugar Co Ltd. It was once reputed to be 'the finest factory in the West Indies'.
