资源简介:
Measurements of assembly patterns and trait measures involved in the assembly process to assess the effects of deadwood enrichment on assembly patterns of saproxylic and non-saproxylic taxa.
Row 1: Different measures that describe community assemblies, described below
Row 2: Taxonomic group
Row 3: Indication of before and after treatment. Before means the year 2004 and after the year 2014. In between a deadwood enrichment strategy was applied which started in 2006. The change in deadwood volume was calculated as log-response ratio, indicating the extend of deadwood enrichment (log response ratio of deadwood volume 2004 to 2014) is deposited in column GU.
Row 4-6 (in columns J-GS): Description of traits used to calculate trait diversity and mean weighted traits (described below). We used a set of traits involved in the assembly process to assess the effects of deadwood enrichment on assembly patterns of saproxylic and non-saproxylic taxa and grouped them according to their main ecological function, i.e. habitat, diet, dispersal, and biotic interactions (Row 4). Categorical traits with more than two levels were transformed into binary variables (Row 5-6).
Column A:Plot names (indicated in Row 1-6).
Column B-I:Calculation of standardized effect sizes (SES) of a functional-phylogenetic distance matrix (MFPD) to compare observed patterns of MFPD to those of randomly assembled communities, i.e. a null-model in four taxa (saproxylic beetles, saproxylic fungi, plants, birds) before (2004) and after (2014) a deadwood enrichment strategy which started in 2006. The MFPD was calculated using the functional distance (FDist) between all species, calculated as Gower distance and the phylogenetic distance (PDist), calculated between pairs of tips of the phylogenetic trees. These two distance matrices were combined to a functional-phylogenetic distance matrix (MFPD) (MFPD = (a PDist p + (1-a) FDist p) 1/p). All statistical analyses were carried out in R version 3.4. 4 (R Development Core Team 2018).
Column J-GS:Calculation of trait diversity and mean weighted traits for four taxonomic groups: saproxylic beetles (9 traits) saproxylic fungi (13 traits), plants (14 traits), birds (17 traits). We used a set of traits involved in the assembly process to assess the effects of deadwood enrichment on assembly patterns of saproxylic and non-saproxylic taxa and grouped them according to their main ecological function, i.e. habitat, diet, dispersal and biotic interactions (Row 4-6). For the traits considered in our analyses of assembly patterns (uncorrelated traits, according to a vifstep analysis), we calculated the community weighted mean (CWM) and diversity of each trait in 2004 and 2014. CWM traits were weighted by abundance of each species per plot and year. The diversity of each trait in the community, was calculated as SES of pairwise distances between communities based on individual traits, which is applicable to both numeric and binary traits (i.e. transformed categorical variables).
Column GT:Indication of the changes in canopy cover before and after treatment. Before means the year 2004 and after the year 2014. In between a deadwood enrichment strategy was applied which started in 2006. The change in canopy cover was calculated: canopy cover of trees 2014 ˗ canopy cover of trees 2004 (indicated in row 4-6).
Column GU:Indication of the changes in deadwood volume before and after treatment. Before means the year 2004 and after the year 2014. In between a deadwood enrichment strategy was applied which started in 2006. The change in canopy cover was calculated: canopy cover of trees 2014 ˗ canopy cover of trees 2004 (indicated in row 4-6). The change in deadwood volume was calculated as log-response ratio, indicating the extend of deadwood enrichment (log response ratio of deadwood volume 2004 to 2014) (indicated in row 4-6).
Column GV:Indication whether plots are located in forest reserves with natural deadwood enrichment (1) or in production forests with enrichment by a restoration strategy (0) (indicated in row 4-6).
