LINGUOCULTURAL ASPECTS OF SIMILES IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PROVERBS

The present study examines the linguocultural characteristics of similes in English and Uzbek proverbs. Proverbs are valuable linguistic units that preserve the cultural experience, traditions, and worldview of a nation. Similes, as figurative expressions based on comparison, enhance the expressiveness and memorability of proverbs. This research identifies the common and culture-specific features of similes in the two languages and analyzes their role in reflecting national identity and cultural values. The findings indicate that while both English and Uzbek proverbs express universal concepts such as wisdom, honesty, courage, and patience, the images used in similes differ according to each nation's historical background, lifestyle, and cultural traditions.
