Formal stratigraphy

A formal stratigraphy of a bore or a sondering is a lithostratigraphic interpretation of a (coded) lithological description based on a defined fixed standard per depth interval. DOV uses the usual standards within Flanders. You can find an overview of the standards used on our website. The formal stratigraphy is used to identify the thickness of the Quartarian, and to distinguish and identify the underlying packages of neogenic, Paleogenic and/or older layers.
