Samples of xylem, phloem, larvae galleries, and frass were collected. High-throughput sequencing was conducted on 37 samples from from both infested and uninfested trees, representing six distinct environment groups. Samples were named according to environment type: IP (M. saltuarius-infested phloem), IX (M. saltuarius-infested xylem), IG (larvae galleries), IF (larvae frass), UP (uninfested phloem), and UX (uninfested xylem). Groups were categorized based on infestation status, I (M. saltuarius-infested); and U (uninfested).
