Metagenomes of Chlorobia enrichment cultures from two Canadian Boreal Shield lakes

Chlorobia (green sulfur bacteria) were enriched from samples of anoxic water collected from the water columns of two Boreal Shield lakes (Lakes 227 and 304) at the International Institute for Sustainable Development Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA; near Kenora, Ontario, Canada). Enrichment was performed in anoxic freshwater (Pfennig) media containing sulfide as the photosynthetic electron donor. Shotgun metagenomes were sequenced from genomic DNA extracted from both cultures to examine iron-cycling genetic potential in the two Chlorobia strains, given that they were enriched from high-iron, low-sulfate lakes. Metagenomes were analyzed in comparison to environmental metagenomes submitted under BioProject PRJNA518727.
