WFS Share of wind farm area

The indicator is a measure of land use and technical overprinting of the landscape by wind turbines (WKA). In addition, there are aesthetic effects due to the visibility of the plants over long distances. The use of wind power can affect birds and bats through disturbances and by increasing mortality (Hötker et al. 2005). After studies, wind turbines also exert positive effects on certain breeding bird species. This is probably caused by secondary effects such as habitat changes or agricultural use in the immediate vicinity of the WKA. Wind farms on wetlands and bare mountain ridges are particularly high for birds. Forest sites of WKA are particularly risky for bats.
