Suicide in Funen, 1968-1974

The survey examines the social, psychiatric and psychological characteristics of persons from Funen who committed suicide in the period 1968-1974. #All information available about these suicides was collected for the survey, including death certificates, police reports, post-mortem examinations, case records from psychiatric and somatic wards and from the out-patients' alcohol clinic, as well as social and health service case records. In addition to this, interviews were carried out with 2 or 3 near relatives of 49 suicides after which the case history (anamnesis) of each suicide was written. The questionnaires for the survey, which were completed by the primary investigator, were based on all this information. #The survey comprises questions concerning the suicidal act, specific reasons for the suicidal act, suicidal behaviour of family members and friends, communication of suicidal intention, previous suicidal behaviour, social background data, as well as some questions concerning social integration and work relations, previous mental illness, personality diagnosis, abuse of alcohol and medicine, criminal record, and somatic and psychosomatic illness
