The Municipalities dataset is a two-dimensional geospatial dataset that contains the coordinates (latitude and longitude) of each of the 8,130 municipalities that make up the Spanish territory. It has been extracted from one of the tables provided in the 2020 'Resumen Descriptivo del Nomenclátor de Municipios y Entidades de Población' (Descriptive Summary of the Nomenclature of Municipalities and Population Entities), called MUNICIPIOS. This report is compiled annually by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute), a public institution under the Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. It includes updated geographic and administrative data on all Spanish municipalities, such as their name, province, geographic location coordinates, perimeter or population, among others.
