In this study, laboratory modeling of the self-restoration of three petroleum-polluted soil samples with different physico-chemical characteristics was conducted over 120 days. Bacterial community structures, as well as the bacterial catabolic gene abundance, were analyzed along with the hydrocarbon content in soils. We hypothesized that at high petroleum concentrations, main soil physico-chemical characteristics play lesser role as hydrocarbons for the successions occurring in the soil microbial communities.
