Ecology Lab 3- Dataset #1

This study was conducted at York University's Keele campus' Danby Woods on September 30th at around 4:00pm in approximately 16-19 degree celcius weather. The data was collected by placing a metal quadrat on the ground ten times in both the grassland and woodlot of the forest, and observing the number of insects contained in the area of the quadrat. The number of insects was observed, as well as the kind of species and the number of insects of each particular species. The total number of insects were summed for each quadrat in both areas of the forest. The results of the study showed that due to the fact that the woodlot has less vegetation/grass, less insects were found there as opposed to the number of insects found in the grassland.
