Blue flycatchers (Niltavinae), a novel subfamily of the Old World flycatchers (Aves: Muscicapidae), are characterized by blue plumage coloration on the upper part, and consisted of sexual dichromatic (blue males and brown females) and monochromatic species (blue or brown in both sexes). They provide an opportunity to investigate the evolution of sexual dichromatism.
