Nineteenth century Parisian women in business

This data set consists in the count of the number of people engaged in the occupations listed in 8 Paris trade directories from 1810 to 1880, broken down by their assumed sex and in the case of women, marital status. An additional file contains various cross-tabulations created from this data and used as the basis of a chapter in a collective volume. The documentation describes the sources and their limitations, explains how the corpus was created and provides links to access the digitized versions of the original documents. A code book for the 8 directories is included.
