VPRS 21038 Applications and Permits

This series consists of the permits and applications for cathodic protection system operation submitted to the Technical Sub-Committee of the Victorian Electrolysis Committee monthly for approval. Cathodic protection is used to protect submerged or buried metal structures from corrosion. The permits and approvals are split into two types. The first is for permission to install and operate Galvanic anodes – if granted this is a permit for life. The second is impressed currents. The first step is for the installation only. Then the applicant submits a second application to operate. This has 10 years expiry date. If approved a permit is issued. A permit will typically contain the following information:  owner location date of approval expiry date cathodic protection details and operating limits. The series also contains information on applications and permits cancellations. These records document systems that are no longer required or operational, and are removed from the database.
