资源简介:
The dataset consists of one xlsx file "RDS-SPRN-00282 resubmission". The Excel file contains five separate spreadsheets.
The first spreadsheet, Description of study, provides a description of the study.
The second spreadsheet contains the Demographics of HIV-positive patients with cryptococcal meningitis (patients) and HIV-positive patients without cryptococcal meningitis (control subjects) who participated in the study. The table consists of five columns and five different parameters. These are:-Patient ID: A number that identifies the patient or the control subject-Sex: The sex of the patient or the control subject; M: male, F: female.-Age range (years): The age range of the patient or the control subject.-Anti-retroviral therapy (ART): 0: Patient or control subject who did not receive anti-retroviral therapy.1: Patient or control subject receiving anti-retroviral therapy.-Duration on ART (days): Number of days that a patient or a control subject was being treated with anti-retroviral therapy.
In the third spreadsheet, Clinical and lab data, the table consists of six columns and six different parameters. These are:-Patient ID: A number that identifies the patient or the control subject.-CSF opening pressure (cm H2O): Cerebrospinal fluid opening pressure, measured in centimeter of water (cm H2O).-CD4 count (cells/µl): CD4+ T-helper cell count, measured in number of cells per microliter of blood.-Day 1 quantitative cryptococcal culture (cfu/ml): Quantitative cryptococcal culture is used to assess the fungal burden in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with cryptococcal meningitis, measured in colony forming units (cfu) of the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans per ml of CSF.-Hb (g/dL): Haemoglobin, measured in grams per deciliter.-Dead at 10 weeks: 0: Patient was alive after 10 weeks, 1: Patient was dead after 10 weeks.
The fourth spreadsheet, Ophthal observations CM cases, describes the ophthalmic findings in HIV-infected adults with cryptococcal meningitis who received anti-fungal treatment and were followed up for 10 weeks. The table consists of eleven columns and eleven different parameters. These are:-Patient ID: A number that identifies the patient.-Visual acuity: This column is divided into two other columns, Right eye and Left eye, describing the visual acuity of the right eye and left eye respectively. Visual acuity (VA) commonly refers to the clarity of vision and was tested using the logMAR (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) scale. -Day 1: This column is divided into two other columns, Right eye and Left eye, describing the retinal findings of the right eye and left eye respectively at day 1 of anti-fungal treatment in HIV-infected adults with cryptococcal meningitis.-Day 7: This column is divided into two other columns, Right eye and Left eye, describing the retinal findings of the right eye and left eye respectively at day 7 of anti-fungal treatment in HIV-infected adults with cryptococcal meningitis.-Week 4: This column is divided into two other columns, Right eye and Left eye, describing the retinal findings of the right eye and left eye respectively at week 4 of anti-fungal treatment in HIV-infected adults with cryptococcal meningitis.-Week 10: This column is divided into two other columns, Right eye and Left eye, describing the retinal findings of the right eye and left eye respectively at week 10 of anti-fungal treatment in HIV-infected adults with cryptococcal meningitis.
The fifth spreadsheet, Ophthal observations controls, describes the ophthalmic findings in HIV-infected adults without cryptococcal meningitis (control subjects). The table consists of seven columns and seven different parameters. These are:-COR PID: A number that identifies the control subject.-Visual acuity right eye: Visual acuity of the right eye. Visual acuity was tested using the logMAR (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) scale. -Visual acuity left eye: Visual acuity of the left eye. Visual acuity was tested using the logMAR (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) scale. -Fundscopy Right eye: Fundoscopy is an exam that uses a magnifying lens and a light to check the fundus of the eye (back of the inside of the eye, including the retina and optic nerve). 0: No abnormality observed at fundoscopy of right eye, 1: Abnormality observed at fundoscopy of right eye.-Abnormality observed (right eye): Type of abnormality observed after fundoscopy of right eye.-Fundscopy Left eye: 0: No abnormality observed at fundoscopy of left eye, 1: Abnormality observed at fundoscopy of left eye.-Abnormality observed (left eye): Type of abnormality observed after fundoscopy of left eye.
This observational study compared severely immunocompromised HIV-infected patients with and without cryptococcal meningitis (CM), to determine the nature and prevalence of retinal pathology attributable to CM. The study was conducted in Balantyre Malawi and a total of 70 adult patients participated in the study; 35 HIV-infected patients with CM and 35 HIV-infected patients without CM (control subjects). Ophthalmic features (such as visual acuity) associated with CM as well as clinical features (such as hemoglobin levels) were recorded.
