"Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is an emerging neurotechnology that establishes a direct communication between the human brain and external systems by translating neural activity into interpretable commands. Many BCI-based English language datasets exist. However, datasets with patients' native languages are not sufficiently present, specifically in Odia language, which is mostly spoken by people of Odisha, a state in India. According to the 2011 census, about 35-40 million individuals in India communicate in the Odia language. However, there exist limited datasets for Odia language. In this data descriptive paper, we constructed an EEG-based BCI dataset that captures neural responses corresponding to Odia vowels and consonants. To create the dataset, we used an 8-channel OpenBCI Cyton biosensing board to collect data from two male and one female volunteers. Each alphabet is recorded with ten trials each from male volunteers and twenty trials from female volunteer. By applying machine learning and deep learning techniques to the dataset, a BCI framework can be developed to map EEG signals into both vocalized and subvocalized forms of the Odia language, which can help patients with neurodegenerative disorders."
