In 2023 a strain of Enterobacter asburiae, sampled from a healthy child in Ireland, was tested for colistin effect during a study to check for prophage induction after antibiotic exposure at subinhibitory concentrations. Considering a colistin related MIC of 2 mg/mL, the strain was further characterized with genomic data (WGS) and mcr-9 gene was found in a IncHI2 plasmid. The same strain carried another clinically relevant antibiotic resistance gene, blaACT-10, that might provide resistance or reduce the susceptibility to carbapenems.
