From a series, "When Helen Went to India" from the Foreign Field.; F.D. Walker was editor of the Methodist Missionary Society journals from 1914 to 1945, and reproduced many of his own photographs in their pages, taken on visits to the mission fields. Walker's first journey to the mission fields began in September 1920, when he visited India, Burma and Ceylon. Walker's first photographs from India appear in April 1921 in an article entitled simply, "Pictures and Jottings" giving an overview of Walker's journey and experiences, and introducing the illustrated articles that were to follow.
