Number of banks in Belgium 2008-2023

The number of banks in Belgium decreased considerably between 2008 and 2023, despite some fluctuations. As of December 2023, there were 78 credit institutes operating in Belgium, one less than in the previous year. The decreasing number of banks is not a uniquely Belgian trend, but a common trend in the European Union as a whole.
