Irish Elections, 1692–1800 (version 1.0)

The files included in this deposit were generated as part of ongoing research into the operation of the Irish representative system in the eighteenth century.This dataset provides a machine-readable, consistently structured record of Irish election events between 1692 and 1800; the first comprehensive inventory of controverted election petitions, together with transcripts of the petitions as printed in the <i>Journals of the House of Commons of the Kingdom of Ireland, 19 vols </i>(Dublin: George Grierson, 1796–1800); two alternative constituency classification schemes drawn from secondary literature; and a set of thematic tags identifying the principal issues raised in the election petitions, accompanied by a codebook defining the tagging vocabulary. All files use shared identifiers, enabling them to be linked for integrated analysis.Taken together, these materials offer a transparent, reproducible foundation for quantitative and qualitative research on elections in eighteenth-century Ireland.
