Gender Representation and Leadership Structures in U.S. Art Museums

This dataset examines gender representation across staffing, leadership, and governance in nonprofit art museums in the United States. Data was compiled from publicly available sources, including museum websites, IRS Form 990 filings, and Candid.org, and includes variables such as museum size, operating budget, curatorial staff, administrative staff, executive leadership, and board composition. Gender representation is measured through counts and calculated percentages of female staff, curators, and board members. In cases where data was incomplete, artificial intelligence (AI) was used to estimate missing values, which are noted within the dataset. The dataset includes museums of varying sizes and regions, enabling comparative analysis of gender distribution and leadership structures within the museum field.
