ThisStrategicframeworkforenhancingpreventionandcontrolofmpox(2024–2027)outlinesaroadmapforhealthauthorities,communities,andstakeholdersworldwidetocontrolmpoxoutbreaksineverycontext,advancempoxresearchandaccesstocountermeasures,andminimizezoonotictransmission.Therearetwoknowncladesofmonkeypoxvirus(MPXV)withdistinctepidemiologicalpatternsandclinicaloutcomes.CladeIMPXVoccursprimarilyinEastandCentralAfrica,wherecaseshavebeenrisingfordecadesandareassociatedwithhighercasefatalitythancladeIIMPXV,whichfirstappearedinWestAfrica.AmajoremergenceofmpoxlinkedtocladeIIbeganinNigeria2017,whichsince2022subsequentlyspreadtoallregionsoftheworld.Transmissionofmpoxcontinues,puttingpeopleatriskofapotentiallydangerousemergingpathogenwhichresemblessmallpox.FollowingthedeclarationofaPublicHealthEmergencyofInternationalConcernandglobaleffortstocurbtheoutbreakamidstcontinuingconcernofthepublichealthburdenofmpoxinAfrica,theoverarchinggoalofthisframeworkistoachieveandsustaineliminationofhuman-to-humantransmissionofmpox.Thisframeworkemphasizesintegratingeffortsofallhealthprogrammes,includingepidemiologicaldiseasesurveillance;sexualhealthservices,riskcommunicationandcommunityengagement;aswellasprimaryhealthcare,immunizationandotherclinicalservices.Coordinationamongallpartnersremainsessentialtoensureacontinuedrobustresponseformpox.
