Effects of the 2024 total solar eclipse upon reception of trans-Atlantic signals in the medium-wave broadcast band, using software defined radio files recorded in Troon, Scotland.

Grid square of location recorded: IO75qn Maximum obscuration of the sun was near 0%, as the eclipse ended in the North Atlantic Ocean, west of the recording site, so that a limited partial eclipse occurred within minutes of local sunset. However, unusual signals were noted from North America during the eclipse period. These data files are recordings of the entire medium wave broadcast band (535-1705kHz) made during the total solar eclipse of 8 April 2024 from 1856 to 2034UT from Troon, Scotland. Data Quality: Only limitations are a few short (<10 seconds) data dropouts and a few weak spurious carriers; otherwise, good. Data files are .wav format, but the archived files are .zip, with about four .wav files packaged together in each .zip file, using the prefix “GM7VXR-wideband_55_2055kHz_ “. Antenna: EWE antenna 12m x 4m at 305° with Vactrol termination, Wellbrook FLG100N Antenna Amplifier Receiver: Perseus, 0dB front end attenuation, with center frequency 1055kHz, recording a 2000kHz wide passband, using Jaguar Pro software. Hardware was not locked to a frequency reference, but Jaguar Pro used BBC 720.0000kHz within the recording as a reference. Recording computer time was time locked using Dimension 4.
