The Dabbas Printing Press Database (1706–1711)

The Dabbas Printing Press Database (1706–1711) was created using optical character recognition on nine books printed by Athanasius Dabbas between 1706 and 1711 in Aleppo. These are: The Psalter (1706), The Gospels (1706), The Gospels (Lectionary and Commentary) (1706), John Chrysostom’s Chosen Pearls (1707), The Apostle and Commentary (1707), The Prophetologion (1708), Athanasios of Jerusalem's Homilies (1711), The Parakleteke (1711), and Dabbas's Letter on Repentance (1711). In total, ca 801.700 tokens were collected:

1- Psalter (1706), ca 32.100 words.

2- Gospels (1706), ca 64.400 words.

3- Lectionary (1706), 112.700 words.

4- John Chrysostom’s Chosen Pearls (1707), ca 112.000 words.

5- Apostle (1707), ca 125.500 words.

6- Prophetologion (1708), ca 65600 words.

7- Athanasios of Jerusalem's Homilies (1711), ca 97.400 words

8- Parakleteke (1711), ca 180.800 words.

9- Letter on Repentance (1711), ca 11.200 words.

We provide the XML files of the first six works here. For research reasons, we preserve the other three, which we promise to make available via open access.
