Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are widely used for the removal of contaminants from wastewater because of the electrodes can be as non-exhaustible electron acceptors or donors. Reducing the electrode spacing (ES) can effectively improve the electrochemical performance. However, how the electrical properties are improved when the ES reduces remains unclear.
