Enrichment of Thermophilic Methanogenic Microflora from Mesophilic Waste Activated Sludge for Anaerobic Digestion of Garbage Slurry

This study investigated the start-up strategy for thermophilic methanogenic enrichment. Conventional waste activated sludge (WAS) was examined as a seed. The WAS was incubated at 55 °C in a continuous flow stirred tank reactor (CFSTR) and garbage slurry was continuously fed as the substrate at preliminary determined specific organic loading rate (OLR) that was calculated from hydraulic retention time (HRT).
