The blow fly Chrysomya rufifacies, which belongs to the Dipteran family Calliphoridae exhibits a monogenic sex determination system with maternally-determined sex. It has two types of females, which produce either all female or all male progeny depending on the genetic constitution of the mother. It also employs undifferentiated (homomorphic) sex chromosomes. The genome sequences and assemblies of Chrysomya rufifacies will allow a greater depth of evolutionary and sex determination studies across calliphorid species.
